My husband and I are truly satisfied and truly happy to have decided to put our son in this program and wouldn't have had it any other way!
We had some sort of issues with the pediatrician (who is no longer our pediatrician because of this) that our son had a speech delayed and was encouraged to go see a speech therapist to help develop his speech. Of course, being a first time mom I went ahead and started up the program. But after hearing what others had to say and the firm conviction of Jamila that my son did not need it as he will be in the school (and of course that he was still a bit too small) that he will develop the speech skills he need.
Being that our family moved from California, we had no idea where our 1 year old son could stay. So he ended up being baby sat by a family friend's daughter. Mind you, not that I had any issues with them, they were great and loving with our baby but I don't deem it babysitting if the TV is doing the work. @_@
So out I went online looking for schools near our home that's affordable. Of course, I had my list of schools we went to and of course, we went to all the tours but the tour we had at Smart Steps was great. The only reason I said that is because my son reacted positively towards Jamila, the director of the school. The school left an impression on me as far as the teacher-student ratio, the simplicity in the school, and the attitude Jamila had about her program. After talking with my husband about it, we were convinced that this is the school for our son.
My son Adam is normally picky, after he joined Smart steps Montessori, he became happy full of joy, he interacted with other classmates, he made friends, he learned many things, he was always ready to go, unlike his previous experience in different other schools he was unfortunately most of the time unhappy. We were very happy with Ms Jamila and her husband Jaffar, we really recommend it highly.
When he's home, he picks up his toys and puts them back where they belong without me having to ask. He listens very well and at the dinner table, he waits patiently for me to bring him a plate of food. There's so many things I can list it'd be endless!
My daughter loves going to this school and always wants to go. The small, inviting, fun, and patient atmosphere as helped her to blossom into being an independent and thoughtful person. Jamila, Zafar and Carrie are kind and very caring educators and are like our family, so I never worry about my daughter because she and all the students are well provided for and are always learning.
And indeed he did! He says so many words now at the age of 2. He speaks English and Spanish as well as signs and this is because of his environment at school and being around children his age gave him the learning experience to start his speaking skills. In only 7 months did my son start speaking well and picking up things so fast.
This is the best Montessori school in the Round Rock/North Austin area hands down. My daughter had tried several other "reputable" schools before we settled on this one. She is a shy person in general, but after 6 months here, we could really start to see the difference in her. She started to become more engaged with other children and her vocabulary vastly improved. Ms. Jamila is a very experienced and effective educator in the Montessori method, and she is always available for parent conferences. I am so impressed with this place that I will be enrolling my second child here when she is of age.
